Ravens linebacker Tony Fein was arrested and charged Sunday with assaulting a police officer at a restaurant, the police said. Fein, an undrafted rookie from Mississippi, was eating dinner at a restaurant in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor neighborhood when a security officer thought he saw him pass a handgun to one of his friends, the police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. The item turned out to be a cellphone. When the police questioned Fein, 27, he became belligerent and shoved the officer, Guglielmi said. Sgt. Joseph Donato was knocked to the ground and had an injured elbow, a police report said.

Cincinnati Bengals
Quarterback Carson Palmer did some light tossing, but did not practice with the team.

Palmer, who has a sprained left ankle, is questionable for Thursday’s preseason game against St. Louis. He missed much of last season with an elbow injury.

Receiver Chad Ochocinco won’t have to kick extra points anymore.

The Cincinnati Bengals signed rookie kicker Sam Swank from Wake Forest, giving them another option while Shayne Graham recovers from a groin injury. Graham couldn’t kick during a preseason game at New England on Thursday, prompting Ochocino to kick an extra point.

Denver Broncos
Brandon Marshall’s feud with the Broncos continued on Saturday, with the disgruntled wide receiver left back in Denver while the rest of the team lost a preseason game at Seattle.

“Everybody who was ready and able to play in this game was here. And everybody we deemed not ready and able stayed back home,” Broncos first-year coach Josh McDaniels said late Saturday night after Denver’s 27-13 loss.

The coach added he “absolutely” expected Marshall to participate when the Broncos return to practice Tuesday.

Marshall spent two days last week working almost exclusively with the scout team after saying he was nowhere near mastering the new offense.

He is upset with the Broncos over their refusal to redo his contract after consecutive 100-catch seasons or to trade him. He’s also angry with their handling of his acquittal on battery charges last week.

The 6-foot-6, 245-pound DeVree was originally signed by the Patriots as a rookie free agent out of Colorado in 2008. He was a member of the Patriots’ practice squad for nine weeks last season before being signed to the 53-man roster.

DeVree made his NFL debut against Seattle on Dec. 7 and also played against Arizona on Dec. 21.

The Patriots have four tight ends in camp, all veterans: Benjamin Watson, Chris Baker, Alex Smith and David Thomas.

CENTRAL JERSEY

School districts across the state are preparing for an influx this fall. But it’s not just in the form of students.

“There is talk of an outbreak in the fall, based on what happened in the spring,” said Robbinsville Superintendent Steve Mayer.

Readiness for such an epidemic was stressed last week at the state level. Local educators and officials met Aug. 25 at South Brunswick High School for a pandemic influenza summit hosted by the state Departments of Education and Health and Senior Services. There, officials addressed Center for Disease Control guidelines, prevention methods, pandemic plans and school closures.

Upper Freehold Regional Superintendent Dick Fitzpatrick says the focus for any potential influenza outbreak should be “trying to keep people calm.”
“Last year, there was a lot of anxiety (over swine flu),” he continued, “but it never reached the proportions people expected.”

There have been 17 deaths and 512 hospitalized cases in New Jersey due to swine flu since the spring, according to the state Department of Health. This fall, the swine flu could infect 30 to 50 percent of the country’s population, lead to as many as 1.8 million hospitalizations with up to 300,000 patients requiring intensive care, and could cause anywhere from 30,000 to 90,000 deaths in the United States, according to an Aug. 7 report from the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

Flu activity in New Jersey remains regional, indicating elevated illness in two to 10 counties and recently confirmed cases in those counties. Regional activity is a step below widespread movement, according to the Department of Health.

In Mercer County, the level remains sporadic. For Monmouth and Ocean counties, activity is regional, according to the most recent state H1N1 report for the week ending Aug. 15.

Despite the apparent danger, state officials are not encouraging schools to close in the event of several students contracting swine flu, Mr. Fitzpatrick said.

“If they do (close), it’s only after consulting with health authorities and state agencies,” the superintendent said. “We shouldn’t be panicking and we shouldn’t jump to conclusions. We need to be thoughtful and we should be planning, not creating anxiety in our community.”

Upper Freehold Regional has a pandemic flu plan it is updating to ensure the plan works, Mr. Fitzpatrick added.

In Millstone, Superintendent Mary Anne Donahue said the district will take part in a “full-fledged prevention program.”

“The key is good hand washing,” she said during the Board of Education’s Aug. 24 meeting.

Hand washing, sanitation and covering one’s mouth while coughing or sneezing all are methods that will be enforced in Robbinsville, too, Mr. Mayer said.

To prepare its schools, the Robbinsville district has been cleaning all facilities with Virox, a sanitization product that targets viruses, Mr. Mayer said during the Board of Education’s Aug. 25 meeting. Also, the district will place hand sanitizers in all classrooms, Mr. Mayer said.

The district will recommend that teachers and students get a seasonal flu vaccination, as well, he said, which should be available in September.

“That way, they avoid a ‘double whammy,’ ” he explained, of contracting both seasonal flu and swine flu, two different stains of the virus.

National Football League in one statistic: jersey sales

September 3rd, 2009

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre already leads the National Football League in one statistic: jersey sales.

Favre ranks No. 1 in jersey sales at NFLShop.com for the period of April 1 through Aug. 28, according to a report on CNBC reporter Darren Rovell’s SportsBiz blog.

Favre has soared to the top of the list since signing with the Vikings on Aug. 18., passing up Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, whose jersey previously had been the most popular.

Running back Adrian Peterson is the only other Viking to crack the top 25, ranking ninth.

Other top sellers included Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu (No. 3), Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick (No. 4) and Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (No. 5).

Like Favre, Vick is another newcomer to the list. He signed with the Eagles on Aug. 14 after completing a 23-month jail sentence for his role in a dog-fighting ring.

Judging strictly by jersey sales, Jay Cutler is the second most popular player in the NFL behind Brett Favre. NFLShop.com released its jersey sales rankings for the NFL’s first four months of the fiscal year to MSNBC, and there were a few surprises.

The most notable surprise comes in at No. 20 — Michael Crabtree — who has yet to don the jersey 49ers fans seem to be so wild about. Eagles quarterback Michael Vick proved you don’t have to be a starter to have a popular jersey as his came in at No. 4 — despite the fact that some sporting goods stores refused to carry it.

Eli Manning was the only player whose jersey number matched its sales rank — not necessarily surprising or interesting, but it sure is a coincidence.

Cutler, who recently showed Chicagoans he cleans up well in a photo shoot for Michigan Avenue magazine, came in at No. 23 this time last year while playing for the Denver Broncos.

Notably absent from the top 20 were Bears players Brian Urlacher and Devin Hester, who came in at Nos. 11 and 12 last year, respectively.

Alternative sports collectors: We are jersey Speaking of Bo Tang made the name, I am afraid not many people know the fans, but to talk about letters to his screen name, then circle the person immediately laughed: “Is not that fat man in Guangzhou it?”

Letters hobby is soccer jersey collection. After the initial Cookin making wild guesses, the text of the letter of the collection began to hit the road, they also begin to selective collection of jerseys: The main team based in Guangzhou and the Guangdong team, national team, Chinese football club AFC race suits, as well as your favorite team’s jersey. Asked him how many pieces of received, he thought for a moment: “are hidden in the admission box, how these years also have to have hundreds of pieces of the bar!”

Most worthy of pride letters, is he almost collected all these years in Guangzhou team race suits. 2006 and 2007 season in the A league, due to the need to replace uniforms advertising, wide drug team almost every game for game wear. Now, these jerseys are a lot of letters lying quietly “treasure chest” where, but all players in the game through the authentic print Oh!

The most valuable jersey? Wen said that there are two letters: one from the Dong Zhuo, one from Ma Xiaoxu. Dong Manchester United played only twice, he entrusted his mother to one of a Manchester United jersey No. 21 was sent to the letter. We should know that for this shirt, perseverance and pursuit of the Dong letters a few years.

Ma Xiaoxu That shirt is also very progenitor. Women’s World Championship Russia 2006, the Chinese team lost to North Korea runner-up, but the Chinese player Ma Xiaoxu that the Competition has become the brightest star – best player, best scorer. Letters by a former Chinese women’s soccer player recognized Xiao-Xu, and Xiao-Xu came to the house with his shirt looked collection immediately won the support of her, Xiao-Xu in the World Championship on the jersey worn soon become a a collection of them.

Developed countries in the football club, shirt sales performance is a measure of the popularity of a player the most direct of the standard, but also the club a very important part of business. In China, the jersey souvenir market and even the development of the club is seriously lagging behind.

Letters League fans have a stake in Guangzhou, operating in the process he had come to such statistics: the best selling jersey in Guangzhou, or fan service, the price should be 40 to 60 per hour, compared with frequently a few hundred genuine race suits, who can only count a handful is interested. But he also acknowledged that a crowd began another upward trend – “playing shirt” people.

”Play shirt” friends already have their own websites and forums, but if you log “PENALTY” This shirt forum, not a registered user you are really not work. Because the “players” in online transactions, critical review of membership is to fake. This forum has a user 80 to 100 people, but the real “players” will San Wushi months.

Letters said that in the “players” in the middle of China approved of the player’s shirt has a price, but price depends largely on the degree tight jerseys. To the players through the “get off the field Edition” shirt, for example, Weifeng, Zheng Zhi price of each jersey 1000-1200 yuan; already retired star Yang Chen, jerseys can still fetch is now 800 yuan to 1,000 yuan; Guang Xu Liang drug team headed star’s signature jersey can also be sold for 700 yuan.

However, in Europe and the United States club, jersey’s marketing has long been the formal and marketization. A “fan version” of the game service, in the boutique price of RMB500 to 1,000 dollars will; “Players Edition” will be two to three times higher; while the players after the game right through the “off the farm edition “jersey auction, sold for 10,000 pounds a no surprise.

Sale alert! It’s not often life gets any better with the products from Augusta Sporstwear on clothing4all.com, but hey I’m not complaining! My favorite product of the day is the youth mesh button front baseball shirt. I know that there’s not a ton of requirements for the average baseball jersey, but that’s the average baseball jersey. Augusta andclothing4all make sure that they never fall into the average category. This jersey is 70-denier 100% polyester mesh. The sleeves are set in and the buttons are spaced for easy embellishment. At clothing4all,embroidery starts at just 9.99 for 5000 stitches. Screen printing has equally good deals so send your logo to clothing4all today! One pet peeve of mine is when clothing begins to unravel along the seams. This is never an issue with this jersey because the sleeves and fishtail bottom are both double-needle hemmed. This means manufacturers took double the time to guarantee that this jersey looks top notch both on the field and off. Of course, there’s no reason for grown-ups and pros to get jealous. The mesh button front baseball shirts are also available in adult style at the same amazing price of less than fifteen dollars. Choose from 11 game winning colors and I guarantee that you’ll be an MVP in no time!
